Fifth GAVI Board Meeting, 21-22 June 2001, London, England

June 2001

Developing Country Vaccine Manufacturers Network

DISCUSSION

The Board welcomed the development of a new network of developing country vaccine manufacturers (download Powerpoint file – approx. 139kb), and urged close collaboration between this network and the IFPMA.

The vaccine industry should be viewed as an international industry, and not stratified between manufacturers from developing and industrialized countries. In this context, the Board confirmed the need for an adequate number of active producers of vaccines in developing and industrialized countries, and maintaining an environment of fair competition while at the same time identifying gaps in research and development.
