Why do we need a renewed global effort for immunization?

The Alliance has been formed to address three key problems:

One in four children worldwide still does not receive the "basic" vaccines against diseases such as measles, diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough.

The "vaccine gap" between rich and poor children is widening.

Three major killers with a combined annual death toll of five million - HIV, TB and malaria - cannot be prevented by existing vaccines and research on vaccines for these diseases has been underfunded.
