Health, immunization and economic growth
It
has long been accepted that, as people grow richer, their health tends
to improve. However, in recent years, researchers have accumulated
increasing evidence that this "wealth-health" link also works in the
other direction: better health can lead
to greater wealth too. Governments and others who invest in public
health in a rational way, and particularly in the health of the poorest,
reap rewards in better productivity and economic growth. The GAVI
partnership focuses on investing in immunization, both as a human
right and as one highly cost-effective means to improve the health
