Fifth GAVI Board Meeting, 21-22 June 2001, London, England

June 2001

Status report on GAVI

Discussion

GAVI has achieved great success in its first two years of operation. As it evolves, the Alliance will need to continue to innovate and learn from experience.

Now that it is in its implementation phase, the alliance must strive to take immunization toward a broader perspective, and interact with all appropriate actors in health.

The architecture of GAVI is not always clear. It would be helpful to have a briefing on the roles of the various task forces, the relations between the GAVI and Vaccine Fund Boards, the GAVI Secretariat and Fund management, the the GAVI Working Group and the Fund Executive Committee, and the relations between GAVI and the partners themselves.

DECISIONS

The Board:

  • agreed that the next Board meeting agenda should include presentations and discussions about the various GAVI and Vaccine Fund structures – who is doing what, how the groups work together;

  • requested that an organigram be developed for this exercise.
