Vaccine producers in developing countries have created a forum for collaboration with a new Developing Country Vaccine Manufacturing Network, launched in November 2000. WHO pre-qualified vaccine manufacturers include:

Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Cuba
Chiron Behring, India
Institut Pasteur Dakar, Senegal
LG Life Sciences Ltd. , Korea

Vaccine manufacturers in the process of attaining pre-qualification include:
Biological E, India
Butantan Institute, Brasil
In addition, vaccinology institutions (including WHO , the International Vaccine Institute , and RIVM are providing technical support to the Network.

The goals of the Network include:

  • To provide quality vaccines at affordable prices to the developing world, including those vaccines in need in developing countries and those in which there is limited interest to industrialized nations and, possibly, big pharma.
  • To obtain recognition that developing country vaccine producers have an essential role in assuring availability of vaccines to inmunize every child.
