GAVI's focus is helping countries improve children's health.  Delivering support, both financial and technical, forms the core of the Alliance's efforts.

After they have successfully completed the application process countries must meet the following monitoring requirements:

GAVI first invited countries to apply for support in 2000.  By the end of 2004, 71 out of 75 countries had successfully applied, and GAVI's current commitments now total more than 1.2 billion. Cuba, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste have not yet approached GAVI.
