YF Yellow Fever

Yellow Fever (YF)
One of the three under-used vaccines which is being made available to the poorest countries through GAVI and the Vaccine Fund (HebB, Hib and Yellow Fever). Yellow Fever is a mosquito-borne viral haemorrhagic fever which occurs in tropical regions of Africa and in the Americas – often in explosive epidemics involving heavy loss of life. A safe and highly effective vaccine against Yellow Fever has been available for over 60 years. By December 2003, over 3 million children had been immunized against Yellow Fever in 15 of the 28 countries eligible for Vaccine Fund support for Yellow Fever vaccine.
