Vaccine Fund Trust Account at UNICEF (sometimes referred to as UNICEF Trust Account) (VFTA or TA)
In 2000, UNICEF agreed to manage the Vaccine Fund Trust Account at UNICEF on behalf of the GAVI Alliance. Services provided have included; acceptance and management of certain donor government pledges as necessary; transfer of funds to countries; transfer of ISS funds; transfer of funds for vaccine procurement to UNICEF Supply Division; reporting of funds disbursed.

The Vaccine Fund (VF or TVF)
The Vaccine Fund, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, is the financing resource created to support the GAVI immunization goals, providing financial support directly to low-income countries to strengthen their health delivery and immunization services and to purchase new and under-used vaccines.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD)
An estimated 30 million children each year still miss out on vaccination. As a result, two to three million will die annually from easily vaccine preventable disease and many more will fall sick.

Vaccine Provision Project (VPP)
In June 2002, the GAVI Vaccine Provision Project (VPP) was created as a pilot project to secure supply of Vaccine Fund supported vaccines in GAVI countries. It was established after the initial round of GAVI procurement highlighted the need for a centralized, accountable body to more closely coordinate program implementation, supply, and financing efforts. The project is currently on hold.

Vaccine vial monitors (VVM)
A label on a vaccine vial that changes color when exposed to heat over a period of time. If the VVM indicates a color change, health workers know that the vaccine inside should not be used.

In 2002, the GAVI Board stipulated that from the beginning of 2004 all vaccines purchased through the Vaccine Fund must include VVMs – a target that was met in 2004, with the exception of Yellow Fever vaccine.
